True to his word, he doused himself with an inflammable liquid at 11:30 a.m., applied a match, and burst into flames. अपमानित बउजीजी शहर के विशाल कक्ष में आधिकारिक शिकायत के लिये गया। उसे उत्तर नकारात्मक मिला उससे कहा गया कि सभी लोग बैठक में हैं, तुम घर जाओ , जो कुछ हुआ उसे भूल जाओ। उसने इस मामले को यहीं समाप्त करने के स्थान पर वापस लौटकर अपने साथ फल विक्रेताओं के समक्ष अपने संकल्प को जताया कि वह इस अन्याय और भ्रष्टाचार का विरोध करते हुए आत्मदाह करेगा। अपने संकल्प को चरितार्थ करते हुए उसने अपने ऊपर करीब दिन में 11:30बजे ज्वलनशील पदार्थ छिडक लिया और उस पर माचिस लगा दी और स्वयं आगों की लपटों में घिर गया।
