During 1970-1991 synchrotron was operated with energies up to 4, 5 GeV and in Experimental Physics Division were obtained significant results, including : hadronic properties of photons in ?-meson photo-production on nuclei; structures of nucleon resonances in multi-polarization experiments, structure and characteristics of nuclear matter, important properties of X-ray transition radiation and channeling in monocrystals.

The Inner Tracking System ( ITS ) ( consisting of three layers of detectors : Silicon Pixel Detector ( SPD ), Silicon Drift Detector ( SDD ), Silicon Strip Detector ( SSD ) ), the Time Projection Chamber ( TPC ) and the Transition Radiation Detector ( TRD ) measure at many points the passage of each particle carrying an electric charge and give precise information about the particle's trajectory.

These include ( but are not limited to ) Beam Position Monitors ( BPMs ) to measure the position of the bunch, screens ( fluorescent screens, Optical Transition Radiation ( OTR ) devices ) to image the profile of the bunch, wire-scanners to measure its cross-section, and toroids or ICTs to measure the bunch charge ( i . e ., the number of particles per bunch ).

Before moving to the United States in 1983, he worked on high energy physics and astrophysics experiments in Romania, the Soviet Union and CERN . He was Principal Investigator for experiments carried out at CERN and at Dubna from 1974 to 1979, and from 1974 to 1983 was Principal Investigator for the Transition Radiation Experiment on the Intercosmos 17 satellite, and for the ASTRO1 and ASTRO2 experiments on the Romanian Astronaut flight.
