In 1950, Clarita von Trott began studying medicine and, in 1965, wrote her thesis on " the influence of the usual fixers of ultraviolet absorption by serum protein bodies . " She then obtained qualifications as a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst and practised in Hamburg and Berlin.

Cerium ( III ) and terbium ( III ) have ultraviolet absorption bands of relatively high intensity compared with the other lanthanides, as their configurations ( one electron more than an empty or half-filled f-subshell respectively ) make it easier for the extra f electron to undergo f?! d transitions instead of the forbidden f?! f transitions of the other lanthanides.

He has made important contributions in the following subjects : the deformation of quartz and changes of its optical properties under the influence of eletric field, continuous spectra of hydrogen and neon, ultraviolet absorption of ozone, the pressure effect on the sensitivity of photographic emulsion, the electrification by torsion and the oscillation of hollow quartz cylinders, the absorption spectra of sodium, rubidium and caesium under electric field, the effect of foreign gasses on the absorption spectra of sodium, rubidium and caesium, the band spectra and energy of dissociation of rubidium molecule, etc.
