Direct infiltration of the nerve roots is also observed, mostly from the dorsal roots ( the afferent sensory root of the spinal nerve ) than the ventral roots ( the efferent motor root of a spinal nerve ).
12.
Peripheral sensory cell > Preganglionic cell > Dorsal root ganglia cell in the " Sympathetic chain " > Ventral root ganglia cell in the " sympathetic chain " > Post-ganglionic cell that activates an organ such as the pancreas ( or a muscle ).
13.
Slightly myelinated preganglionic fibers ( aka visceral efferent fibers ) leave the lateral grey column through the ventral roots and promptly form fourteen aggregates called white rami communicantes, also known as white communicating rami, which eventually enter the sympathetic trunk, a structure next to the vertebral column that consists of paired chains of sympathetic ganglia connected by nerve fibers.
