One day after the murder, 20,000 demonstrators gathered to denounce the killing, and 30 people were arrested for inciting hatred against Muslims. After analysing the entire evidence , Mr Das concluded : ” My appeal to you , therefore , is that a man like this who is being charged with the offences imputed to him , stands not only before the Bar in this court but stands before the Bar of the High Court of history and my appeal to you is this : that long after this controversy is hushed in silence , long after this turmoil , this agitation ceases , long after he is dead and gone , he will be looked upon as the poet of patriotism , as the prophet of nationalism , and the lever of humanity . सभी प्रमाणों का विश्लेषण करने के उपरांत श्री दास न समाहार करते हुए कहा ” इसलिए मैं आपसे अपील करता हूं कि यह व्यक्ति , जिस पर उक्त अपराध करने के आरोप लगाए गये हैं , सिर्फ इस अदालत के कठघरे में नहीं , बल्कि इतिहास की ' ऊची अदालत ' के कठघरे में खड़ा है और मेरी आपसे प्रार्थना है : जब यह विवाद शांत हो चुका होगा , जब यह अशांति और आंदोलन का दौर थम चुका होगा , जब यह व्यक्ति इस दुनिया से जा चुका होगा , तब उसे एक राष्ट्रभक्त कवि का गौरव प्रदान किया जायेगा , राष्ट्रभर का मसीहा और मानवता का उद्धारक माना जायेगा .
