Due to the very low slop of earth in Sundervan delta, the River Ganga flow at very low speed and deposit the sand which it takes with it at the ends, due to which size of delta increased and there becomes several stream and sub-stream of River. सुंदरवन डेल्टा में भूमि का ढाल अत्यन्त कम होने के कारण यहाँ गंगा अत्यन्त धीमी गति से बहती है और अपने साथ लाई गयी मिट्टी को मुहाने पर जमा कर देती है जिससे डेल्टा का आकार बढ़ता जाता है और नदी की कई धाराएँ एवं उपधाराएँ बन जाती हैं।
