Once somebody left us home-made sausages , they ' d killed a pig … People were fond of Daddy , where we lived . एक बार कोई वहाँ घर की बनी हुई सॉसेजें छोड़ गया था । उस जगह , जहाँ हम रहते थे , लोग पिताजी को बहुत चाहते थे ।

I wish I could go on sleeping like that and not wake up until it ' s all over and Mummy and Daddy come back . कभी - कभी इच्छा होती है , कि जब तक यह सब क़िस्सा ख़त्म न हो जाए , और माँ और पिताजी वापस न लौट आएँ , तब तक ऐसे ही सोती रहूँ ।

We went through bad times - Daddy wasn ' t rich and the last weeks when he was only working in the hospital we sometimes went hungry . पिछले दिनों काफ़ी बुरी हालत रही । पिताजी ज़्यादा अमीर नहीं थे - आख़िरी कुछ हफ़्तों से वह सिर्फ़ अस्पताल में काम कर रहे थे , उन दिनों हमें अकसर फ़ाका करना पड़ता था ।

They would drag her from her hiding place and then they would shoot him , Dad , Mother , and maybe old Čepek , Joey the apprentice , everybody , even the people who hadn ' t an inkling .
