Let them form a government. … Take coalition forces off their patrols of city streets and away from protecting buildings, and put them in desert bases.” मेरे अनुसार अमेरिका द्वारा देश की ओर प्रस्थान छह वर्ष की देरी करके किया गया ।पहले ही 2003 के एक लेख चलो इराकियों को इराक चलाने दें में मैंने सुझाव दिया था, “ शक्ति का हस्तांतरण इराक को कर दिया जाये , उन्हें सरकार बनाने दिया जाये...... शहर की गलियों में पेट्रोलिंग से गठबंधन सेना को हटा दिया जाये साथ ही भवनों की सुरक्षा से उन्हें हटा दिया जाये और उन्हें मरुस्थल के बेस में भेज दिया जाये” ।

Iraqis want possession of their country; and peoples in countries providing troops serving in Iraq have wearied of the hopeless effort to transform it into something better than it is. Both aspirations can be satisfied by redeploying coalition troops to the desert, where they can focus on the essential tasks of maintaining Iraq's territorial integrity, keeping the fossil fuels flowing, and preventing humanitarian disasters. ईराकी अपने देश पर कब्जा चाहते हैं जबकि ईराक में सेवारत सेनाओं के देश अपने आशाहीन प्रयास के द्वारा इसे बेहतर स्थिति में पहंचाना चाहते हैं . दोनों ही आकांक्षाएं सेना को मरुस्थल में तैनात कर प्राप्त की जा सकती हैं जहां वे ईराक की क्षेत्रीय अखंडता को कायम रखने के आवश्यक कार्य पर ध्यान देते हुए जैविक ईधनों के प्रवाह को जारी रख मानवीय त्रासदी को रोक सकते हैं .
