Shruti are the major texts of Hindu religion which cannot be changed in any period. श्रुति हिन्दू धर्म के सर्वोच्च ग्रन्थ हैं जो पूर्णत: अपरिवर्तनीय हैं अर्थात् किसी भी युग में इनमे कोई बदलाव नही किया जा सकता।

They are called as shrutis because hindus belive that they are given to rishis by paramatma वेद श्रुति इसलिये कहे जाते हैं क्योंकि हिन्दुओं का मानना है कि इन वेदों को परमात्मा ने ऋषियों को सुनाया था जब वे गहरे ध्यान में थे।

In smrithi- all are stories belonging to daily life which is passed from generation to generation श्रुति को छोड़कर अन्य सभी हिन्दू धर्मग्रन्थ स्मृति कहे जाते हैं क्योंकि इनमें वो कहानियाँ हैं जिनको लोगों ने पीढ़ी दर पीढ़ी याद किया और बाद में लिखा।
