No . 662 Squadron was part of Royal Air Force as No . 662 Squadron RAF, first an Air Observation Post Squadron ( from 30 Sept 1943 to 15 Dec 1945 ) later a Royal Auxiliary Air Force Squadron ( from 1 May 1949 until 10 March 1957 ).

The Helicopter Training School was equipped with nine Sikorsky R-4B Hoverfly I helicopters, and trained 100 British Army pilots for Air Observation Post duties, as well as pilots for the first RAF squadron to be equipped with helicopters, 529 Squadron, which carried our radar calibration duties.

Some of the RAF examples were allotted to 657 Squadron RAF for proving the use of helicopters in the Army Co-operation role, and two external stretchers could be fitted to the fuselage . 657 Squadron operated their Hoverfly IIs as Air Observation Posts, spotting for Army artillery units.

The squadron was formed at RAF Andover, England, on 5 March 1945, the third Air Observation Post squadron consisting of Canadian personnel to be formed at RAF Andover, after a 1944 parliamentary debate in Ottawa, Canada, resulted in the approval of three AOP squadrons to be added to the RCAF list, in support of the 1st Canadian Army.

In fact all it says is " Indian Artillery during independence consisted of Field, Air Defence, Counter Bombardment, Coastal, Air Observation Post branches and was allotted eighteen and half all types of artillery regiments while remaining nine and half units went to Pakistan . " Even if these were listed with same designations as those units previously so called before Independence, this still does not prove lineage.
