Defending infantry would fight in areas, with the front divisions in an outpost zone up to deep behind listening posts, with the main line of resistance placed on a reverse slope, in front of artillery observation posts, which were kept far enough back to retain observation over the outpost zone.

Near the terminal is a massive five-story-high concrete bunker, formerly a German artillery observation post and now a museum, the bunker tells the little-known story of the Atlantic Wall : an enormous construction project on which more than two million people, many of them slave laborers, worked for three years.

Lo�berg ordered a new telephone line to be built, parallel to the front line out of artillery range, with branches to forward headquarters, ordered artillery headquarters to move close to infantry division headquarters to improve liaison and moved artillery observation posts back from the front line, to positions which overlooked it.
