After the end of the U . N . Wars, F�cker involved himself in the VF-X development project flying both the VF-X and the VF-X-1 ( non-transformable and transformable flight test prototypes of the VF-1 Valkyrie ), and his flight experience earned him the command of the VF-1 Skull Squadron aboard the super-large-scale semi-submersible attack aircraft carrier CVS-101 " Prometheus ".

While " Franklin " lay mothballed at Bayonne, she was redesignated as an attack aircraft carrier "'CVA-13 "'on 1 October 1952, an antisubmarine warfare support carrier "'CVS-13 "'on 8 August 1953 and, ultimately, as an aircraft transport "'AVT-8 "'on 15 May 1959 . However, she never went to sea again, and was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 1 October 1964.

Rich exemplified the other aspect of the work of the ships of DesRon 2, when she steamed to Yankee Station, where, from 13 May to 20 July 1968 she provided escort and plane guard services for four successive attack aircraft carriers : Bon Homme Richard ( CVA-31 ), Enterprise ( CVAN-65 ), Constellation ( CVA-64 ), and Ticonderoga ( CVA-14 ) in Tonkin Gulf.
