:I have tried other waxy materials including paraffin, bees wax, and even pure lanolin with no success ( the bubbles popped ) but the lack of " wetting " does seem to be a factor and so it may contribute in some way.

The store is tiny but crammed with browse-worthy items from the world over : walking sticks hand-crafted from " sustainfully forested guava trees and sealed with organic bees wax " from the Big Island of Hawaii, ornamental candles from South Africa, handmade greeting cards from Tibet, peacock feathers, Nigerian baskets, Burmese puppets, snail shells hand-painted by Australian Aborigines.
