In contrast, back in 1955, a campaign to censor a representation of Muhammad in another American court building did succeed. That would be the New York City-based courthouse of the Appellate Division, First Department of the New York State Supreme Court. Built in 1902, it featured on its roof balustrade an eight-foot marble statue of “Mohammed” by Charles Albert Lopez as one of ten historic lawgivers. This Muhammad statue also held a Koran in his left hand and a scimitar in the right. इसके विपरीत इससे पहले 1955 में अमेरिका के एक और न्यायालय परिसर में मोहम्मद की एक प्रतिमा पर रोक लगवाने से सम्बन्धित प्रयास सफल रहा था। यह न्यूयार्क शहर स्थित अपील न्यायालय का परिसर था जो कि न्यूयार्क राज्य सर्वोच्च न्यायालय का प्रथम विभाग था। 1902 में निर्मित इस न्यायालय की छत के पास चार्ल्स अल्बर्ट लोपेज़ ने आठ फुट ऊँची मोहम्मद की एक प्रतिमा दस ऐतिहासिक कानून प्रदाताओं में से एक के रूप में निर्मित की थी। इस प्रतिमा में भी मोहम्मद को बायें हाथ में कुरान और दाहिने हाथ में तलवार धारण किये हुए प्रदर्शित किया गया था।
