Perhaps the best cure for the fear of death is to reflect that life has a beginning as well as an end. There was a time when you were not: that gives us no concern. Why then should it trouble us that a time will come when we shall cease to be? To die is only to be as we were before we were born. मृत्यु के डर के निवारण का शायद सर्वोत्तम उपाय इस बात पर विचार करने में है कि जीवन की एक शुरुआत होती है और एक अंत होता है। एक समय था जब आप नहीं थे: उससे हमे कोई मतलब नहीं होता। तो फिर हमें क्यों तकलीफ होती है कि ऐसा समय आएगा जब हम नहीं होंगे? मृत्यु के बाद सब कुछ वैसा ही होता है जैसा हमारे जन्म से पहले था।

Had he married a mere beauty he might have tired of her , but he could not tire of the protective fence of care and comfort which his wife unobtrusively built around him , and never ceased to be grateful for the self-effacing devotion with which she helped his genius to fruition . अगर उन्होंने किसी सुंदरी से विवाह किया होता तो वह शायद उससे तंग आ जाते , लेकिन उनकी पत्नी ने बड़े ही जतन से सुख और सुविधा का जो सुरक्षित घेरा उनके चारों ओर तैयार किया था- उससे वे कभी परेशान नहीं हुए.अपने को सदा ओट में रखकर की जाने वाली निष्ठापूर्ण सेवा के प्रति जिसने उनकी प्रतिभा को फलप्रसू बनाने में सहायता की , इस नाते वे उसका आजीवन आभार मानते रहे .

Three main characteristics mark these poems : a recurring reminiscent mood , a need to look back on the long path strewn with memories ; a widening horizon of thought and a deepening sympathy with what is commonly ignored , discarded despised , uninhibited by moral or social bias ; and a restless urge to explore to the farthest limits the possibilities of Bengali diction and rhythm and to draw uncanny music out of the seemingly discordant It would be wrong to imagine that these four books of prose-poems , remarkable as they are , mark , whether as an aberration or a further development ; a stage of no return , where Tagore ceased to be what he had always been . इन कविताओं के तीन मुख्य रूप हैं- संस्मरणों की पुनरावृत्ति , स्मृतियों से समृद्ध , पीछे छोड़े हुए दीर्घ पथ की ओर मुड़कर देखने का आग्रह , भावनाप्रधान सीमाओं की विस्तृति तथा सामान्यतया अवहेलित , घृणित , त्याग किए हुए समाज के विधि-निषेधों को पार कर उनके प्रति सहानुभूति का भाव पोषण.तथा यह उनकी एक अदम्य इच्छा थी कि बंग्ला भाषा के शब्द समूहों तथा छंदों को उनकी अंतिम परिणति तक पहुंचाना तथा इनके तथाकथित विरूप स्वरूपों के बीच भी संगीतपरक संरचना की संभावना का पता लगाने का प्रयास करना.यह समझना कदाचित उचित नहीं होगा कि गद्य कविता शैली की ये चार पुस्तकें , चाहे ये अवरोध हों या प्रगामी या ढंग विकास उनका अंतिम पड़ाव बन गईं , जहां वे अपने स्वाभाविक रूप से लौट न पाए .
