' The possession of empire , instead of adding to the strength of the ruling power , has become a burden and a curse . यह कहा गया था कि हिंदुस्तान में अंग्रेजी राज के रहने से हुकूमत को ताकत नहीं मिल रही है , बल्कि यह उसके लिए बोझ और मुसीबत बन गया है .

Curse the moment I met that old man , he thought . He had come to the town only to find a woman who could interpret his dream . बुरा हो उस घड़ी का जब मैं उस बूढ़े से मिला , उसने सोचा , वह तो शहर के भीतर केवल इसलिए आया था कि सपने बांचनेवाली उस औरत से मिल सके ।

Today , I understand something I didn ' t see before : every blessing ignored becomes a curse . आज मैं उस चीज को अच्छी तरह समझने लगा हूं जिसे मैंने इससे पहले कभी समझने - बूझने की कोशिश ही नहीं की , जैसे मिली हुई दुआ को ठुकराओ तो वह लानत बन जाती है ।

Be this my curse at farewell may the knowledge for whose sake you have spurned me never bear its full reward for you ! तो फिर विदा की इस घड़ी में मेरा यह अभिशाप वहन करो कि तुमने मेरा तिरस्कार कर जिनके लिए यह ज्ञान अर्जित किया है , इसका तुम्हें कभी पूरा फल नहीं मिलेगा .

Looking at the frail form of the moon , all of them melted and requested their father to withdraw the curse . रोहणी आकुल-व्याकुल , बहनों से च्रद्रमा के स्वास्थ्य के लिए अनुनय-विनय करने लगी.चंद्रमा की क्षीण काया देख सभी ऋषि के पास जाकर सुहाग रक्षा की प्रार्थना करने लगी .
