So far, responses to heightened Turkish aggressiveness in the Mediterranean have focused on deterring Turkish feints toward gas and oil reserves in the Cypriot EEZ, with navies and statements from the United States and Russia backing the Republic of Cyprus' right to exploit its economic resources . Cypriot president Demetris Christofias warned that if Ankara persists with its gunboat diplomacy, “there will be consequences which, for sure, will not be good.” Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon told the Greeks that “If anyone tries to challenge these drillings, we will meet those challenges” and his government enhanced security not only for its own maritime fields but also for drilling areas in Cypriot waters. On at least one occasion, Israeli warplanes have confronted Turkish ships. अभी तक भूमध्यसागर में तुर्की की बढती आक्रामकता को लेकर केवल साइप्रस के विशेष आर्थिक क्षेत्र से उसे तेल और गैस निकालने से रोकने तक सीमित रखा गया है और अनेक नौसिखिये लोग या फिर अमेरिका और रूस साइप्रस के आर्थिक संसाधनों को प्राप्त करने के अधिकारों का समर्थन करते दिखे हैं। साइप्रस के राष्ट्रापति देमेत्रिस क्रिस्टोफियास ने चेतावनी दी है कि “यदि अंकारा अपनी बदूकआधारित नौका की नीति को जारी रखता है तो इसके परिणाम अच्छे नहीं होंगे” । इजरायल के उप विदेश मंत्री डैनी अयालोन ने ग्रीक से कहा है, “यदि कोई भी इन उत्खननन को चुनौती देता है तो हम उन चुनौतियों का सामना करेंगे” और उनकी सरकार ने न केवल अपने सामुद्रिक क्षेत्र में वरन साइप्रस के उत्खनन जलक्षेत्र में भी सुरक्षा बढा दी है। एक अवसर पर तो इजरायल के लडाकू विमान तुर्की के जहाज से भिड भी गये थे।

Apr. 12, 2007 update : In two-part essay titled “Is European Civil War Inevitable by 2025?” Paul Weston calls it inevitable that Europe will find itself engaged a civil war so bloody it would make “WWII look like a bun fight.” In part I , he makes this argument on the basis of demographic projections. In part II , he focuses on Islamic imperialism and predicts quite specifically when the European reaction will set it: “Somewhere between 2017 and 2030, during a period of heightened tension, Islamists in France, Holland or Britain will blow up one church, train or plane too many. Retaliation will begin and they, in turn will respond.” Apr. 16, 2007 update : In a major review of Philip Jenkins ' new book, God's Continent: Christianity, Islam, and Europe's Religious Crisis, Richard John Neuhaus writes skeptically of Jenkins' roseate views about the European future. Writing in the May 2007 issue of First Things (“ The Much Exaggerated Death of Europe ”), Neuhaus concludes the review with this anecdote: दुर्भाग्यवश ऐसे आशावाद का आधार काफी क्षीण है। यूरोप के लोग अभी भी अपनी ईसाई पहचान प्राप्त कर अधिक सन्तान उत्पन्न कर अपनी विरासत को सँभाले रख सकते हैं। वे गैर मुस्लिम आप्रवास को प्रोत्साहित कर अपने मध्य स्थित मुसलमानों को उनकी संस्कृति से दूर रख सकते हैं। परन्तु न तो ऐसे परिवर्तन हो रहे हैं और न ही उनकी सम्भावना दिखती है। इसके बजाय मुसलमान अपने पड़ोसियों से शिकायत रखते हैं और उनसे विपरीत महत्वाकांक्षायें रखते हैं। चिन्ता इस बात कि है कि प्रत्येक मुस्लिम पीढ़ी अपनी पुरानी पीढ़ी की अपेक्षा अधिक अलग-थलग पड़ती जा रही है। कनाडा के उपन्यासकार ह्यूज मैकलेनन ने टू सालीट्यूड्स में अपने देश में अंग्रेज फ्रेन्च विभाजन के माध्यम से इसी रूप को चित्रित किया था जिस पर अधिक चर्चा नहीं हुई। उदाहरण के लिये ऐसे ध्रुव पर ब्रिटिश मुसलमान अधिकांश संख्या में मुस्लिम पहचान और ब्रिटिशपने के मध्य संघर्ष देखते हैं तथा इस्लामी कानून की स्थापना चाहते हैं।
