The "'West Indian Ocean coelacanth "'( " Latimeria chalumnae " ), sometimes known as the "'African coelacanth "'is one of two extant species of coelacanth, a rare order of vertebrates more closely related to lungfish, reptiles and mammals than to the common ray-finned fishes.
