Great Britain was located in the interior of Pangea, where it was again subject to a hot arid desert climate with frequent flash floods leaving deposits that formed beds of red sedimentary rock, somewhat similar to the later, Triassic New Red Sandstone.

For example, in the UK reddish brown earths occur on the Old Red Sandstone ( Devonian ) and the New Red Sandstone ( Permian ), and are red because the rocks from which they formed are derived from strongly oxidised deposits that were laid down under desert conditions millions of years ago.

The large chancel was restored around 1475, primarily it would appear by extending it and adding new red sandstone Perpendicular segmental-pointed side windows, one three-light and one single-light to the south and one three-light to the north all now with nineteenth century tracery and stained glass.

Amblecote Parish Church of the Holy Trinity is almost unique ( as is nearby Quarry Bank Church ) because it is constructed completely of yellow fire bricks, made by local brickworks ( William King and Co ) from the local fire clay which, together with thick coal seams, forms the main strata of Amblecote in the east, whilst the new red sandstone underlies Amblecote to the west of the railway line.
