In April 2010, members of the Australian Army's No . 176 ( Air Dispatch ) Squadron became the first paratroopers to jump from a non-American Globemaster; the type was first used to support training by the Army's Parachute Training School in June that year.

The station comes under the control of the nearby RAF Brize Norton, home of No . 1 Parachute Training School RAF . The grass airfield at Weston is used regularly as a drop zone for military static line and freefall parachute training for the UK military, using C-130 Hercules aircraft based at RAF Brize Norton.

Troops make each descent from a C-130 or Skyvan aircraft using the Low Level Parachute at heights of 800 ft and 1000 ft . On successful completion of their nine descents, trainees are presented with their'wings'by the Officer Commanding No . 1 Parachute Training School, and return to their units as qualified parachutists.

At a briefing arranged at SSG Parachute Training School at Peshawar in the presence of two senior officers, Lt . Col . Abdul Matin, the Commander of No . 1 Commando Battalion, now retired and the brilliant Operations Staff Officer Maj . E . H . Dar, ( Later Major General E . H . Dar ) the Air Force Chief was told that only a pre-emptive operation like the Israeli crippling raids against the front line Arab states'air bases as in 1956 Arab-Israel War, could have probability of success.
