Robinson made several films in the Northern Territory such as " Outback Patrol ", " The Pearlers " and " Crocodile Hunters " as well as a short film with actors in a studio called " Double Trouble " ( 1951 ).

Of the two-masted, flush decked ( with no bridge or superstructure ) colonial steamships operating in the north west of Australia, " SS Xantho " owned by the controversial pearler and pastoralist Charles Edward Broadhurst was of such import it is a likely possibility as the inspiration for the Walga Rock painting.

Proposed in mid-1941, the NTSRU was subsequently formed between 12 February and 19 March 1942 under the command of Squadron Leader Donald Thomson, an anthropologist before the war with extensive experience working with the local Yolngu people in the 1930s, several of whom had previously been jailed for killing five Japanese pearlers and three Europeans during the Caledon Bay crisis in 1932 33.

Eliza Broadhurst and the children, ( the two boys Charles Jr ., Florance and a newly-born daughter Sarah ) left the north soon after the disappearance of the schooner " Emma ", a tragedy which claimed the lives of Trevarton Sholl, W . F . Tays, the then leading pearler in the district and a third of the entire European population of the North District in 1867.

Conflict between settlers and local indigenous people peaked during 1868 69 . On the night of 6 7 February 1868, Police Constable William Griffis and his Aboriginal assistant Peter, along with a pearler called George Breem, were killed by members of the Jaburara ( or Yaburara ) people on the shores of Nickol Bay, near the Jaburara heartland of ET Hooley's station, the only one in operation on the Ashburton River, resulted in RJ Sholl overseeing further expeditions by armed, mounted police and settlers, culminating in the so-called " Battle of Minderoo " ( 18 July 1869 ).
