The Pendjari park consists of; grasslands which have no trees or shrubs; shrub lands which are fully covered by grass; Arborous savanna vegetation; wooded savanna formations with contiherbaceous layer but with no undergrowth; forests along the river, thin forests with plenty of trees of size of 8 16 m; and gallery forests which are dense with shrubs.

Due to the fact of " P . goliah " needing a constant free-standing source of water, plus its height and its common habitat in open shrub lands made the " P . goliah " more noticeable to the human hunters, thus making it vulnerable to humans who were also water-bound like the " Procoptodon ".

Today's visitors can wander through five distinct habitats : the steamy, lowland tropical forest, where bromeliads and orchids dangle from the fake branch of a kapok tree that has " crashed " across the path; the cool upland cloud forest, where tree ferns thrive in the mist; the American desert, where cactuses and agaves have learned to thrive in drought; the African desert, with its strikingly similar but different euphorbias and aloes ( a mini-lesson in convergent evolution ), and finally, the aromatic shrub lands of California, South Africa and Australia, where certain plants depend upon fire to release their seeds.
