Leaving shruti all dharmic hindu granths are called smritis because this includes those story's which was read by people by hearted by them and written by them. श्रुति को छोड़कर अन्य सभी हिन्दू धर्मग्रन्थ स्मृति कहे जाते हैं क्योंकि इनमें वो कहानियाँ हैं जिनको लोगों ने पीढ़ी दर पीढ़ी याद किया और बाद में लिखा।

The Vedas are also called 'shruti', because they were memorized by the Rishis as the printing system was then not developed.
