The Tariff Board , in its first enquiry , found that the average import price of steel -LRB- before duty -RRB- was Rs 140 per ton as against an average price of Rs 180 per ton recoverable by the Tatas if they were to cover costs and earn a ' fair ' margin of profit . टैरिफ बोर्ड ने , अपनी प्रथम जांच में पाया कि इस्पात की आयातित औसत कीमत ( शुल्क से पूर्व ) 140 रूपये प्रति टन थी जबकि टाटा की वसूली औसत कीमत 180 रूपये प्रति टन जो थोड़े बहुत मुनाफे के साथ लागत मूल्य को वसूल करने लायक था , यदि वे ऐसा चाहते .

As the Tariff Board observed in 1927 , this fall was as much due to freight difficulties and the competition offered by Chinese and Japanese yarn as to the neglect of the foreign markets when profits in the Indian market were easy and high . 1927 में जैसा कि टैरिफ बोर्ड की रिपोर्ट में था , यह गिरावट जितनी चीनी और जापानी धागे की प्रतिस्पर्धा तथा ढुलाई की कठिनाइयों के कारण थी उतनी ही विदेशी मंडियों की उपेक्षा के कारण थीं जबकि भारतीय मंडियों में लाभ की दरें ऊंचीं भी और लाभ कमाना आसान था .

As for the other upcountry mills , the Tariff Board found it difficult to make a generalisation , in view of their wide dispersal and the diverse conditions surrounding them , but found it safe to observe that they had fared as well as their counterparts in Ahmedabad . जहां तक दूसरी उपनगरीय मिलों का प्रश्न है टैरिफ बोर्ड को , इनके विस्तृत विकेंद्रीकरण के कारण तथा इनकी विभिन्न पर्Lस्थितियों के कारण , इनके बारे में एक सामान्यीकरण करना कठिन लगा.टैरिफ बोर्ड ने बस केवल इतना ही कहना ठीक समझा कि इनका तथा अहमदाबाद की मिलों का काम ठीक रहा है .
