Russell was an active member of the Auckland Horticultural Society and added many interesting plants to the property including a Chilean wine palm ( " Jubaea chilensis " ), several Bunya Bunya pines ( " Araucaria bidwillii " ) and a circular grove of holm oaks ( " Quercus ilex " ).
