The larger oblong mass , longer from front to rear than from side to side , afforded the material for carving out the complex of the main vimana and its axial mandapas , as also two tall and stout freestanding monolithic pillars on either side in front surrounded by an open courtyard formed by trenches on all the sides . शैल का बडऋआ आयताकाकर पुंज , जो इस बाजू तक के बजाय आगे से पीछे तक लंबा ढथा , मुखऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-य विमान और उसके अक्षीय मंडपों का परिसर तराशने के लिए उपयुकऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-त था.साढथ में सामने दोनों पार्शऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-वों पर दो ऊंचे और मोटे खुले खडऋए हुए एकाशऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-मक सऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-तंभ भी हैं , जो सभी दिशाओं में बनी खाऋ से बने एक खुले प्रांगण से घिरे है .

While a great part of the stone enclosure wall , gopura , two-storeyed malika , and sub-shrines and mandapas were blasted and pulled down in the last century to supply stones for constructing a river dam in the neighbourhood , the main vimma and its axial mandapa , and two or three lesser vimana units in the court have fortunately been spared and are even now almost intact . तथापि पिछली शताब्दी में निकट ही नदी पर बन रहे एक बाँध के निर्माण में पत्थरों की आपूर्ति के लिए पत्थर के प्राकार का एक बड़ा भाग , गोपुर , दुमंजिली मालिका , उपमंदिरों और मंडपों को विस्फोट से उड़ा दिया गया था फिर भी मुख़्य विमान और उसके अक्षीय मंडप और प्रांगण में स्थित दो तीन छोटे विमान सौभाग़्यवश बच गए और अभी भी लगभग अंखड़ित है .

The Virupaksha is the largest structural temple complex of the early Chalukyas consisting of a tall four-storeyed vimana with axial mandapas and peripheral two-storeyed parivara sub-shrines of the kuta and sala type round the court , the whole enclosed by a prakara wall with gopura entrances in front and behind on the east and west , which are again the earliest in the Chalukyan series . ' विरूपाक्ष ' आरंभिक चालुक़्यों का सबसे बड़ा सरंचनात्मक मंदिर परिसर है जिसमें एक ऊंचा चार मंजिला विमान है जिसके साथ एक अक्षीय मंडप और पूरे आँगन में परिधि पर कूट और शाला प्रकार के द्वितल परिवार उपमंदिर हैं.यह सब एक प्राकार से घिरा हुआ है जिसमें सामने और पीछे , पूर्व और पश्चिम दिशा में गोपुर प्रवेश बने हुए हैं.यह भी चालुक़्य श्रृंखला का आंरभिक चिह्न है .
