The bigger the crowd he lives in the more civilized his settlements are , the worse are the filth and insanitation that he creates in Nature and the greater the chances of weaning away the flies from their natural abodes to spread contamination and disease . वह जितनी ज़्यादा गंदगी और अस्वच्छता वह प्रकृति में फैलाता है.इससे मक़्खियों को उनके प्राकृतिक आवासों से खदेड़ दिए जाने के अवसर बंद हो जाते हैं और साथ ही संदूषण तथा रोग फैलने के संयोग भी बढ़ जाते हैं .

In flood-times it sometimes swells to such a degree as to cover nearly a space oftenfanakh , and to rise above the tree of the plains , so that afterwards the rubbish carried by the floods is found in their highest branches like birds-nests . बाढ़ के समय कभी-कभी इसमें इतना पानी बढ़ जाता है कि दस फरसख स्थान घेर लेता है और मैदानों में तो पेड़ों से भी इतना ऊपर चला जाता है कि बाढ़ में बही हुई गंदगी उनकी ऊंची-ऊंची शाखाओं पर इस तरह जमी दिखाई देती है मानो पक्षियों के घोंसले हों .

The blight of caste is not only untouchability and the consequent deification in India of filth ; the blight , in an India that tries to grow , is also the over-all obedience it imposes , its readymade satisfactions , the diminishing of adventurousness , the pushing away from men of individuality and the possibility of excellence . जाति व्यवस्था का अभिशाप सिर्फ अस्पृश्यता और गंदगी को मान्यता ही नहीं है , उसका अभिशाप ( जो भारत में फैल रहा है ) उसकी सर्वव्यापी स्वीकार्यता , उससे उपजने वाल संतुष्टि-भाव और दुस्साहसिक कार्यों की संभावना का क्षीण होना है.यह आदमी को उसकी निजता और उन्नति की संभावना से दूर कर देती है .

After they had practised this custom for a long time , Narayana prescribed to them to hand the dead over to the fire , and ever since they are in the habit of burning them , so that nothing remains of them , and every defilement , dirt , and smell is annihilated at once , so as scarcely to leave any trace behind . . .. जब वे एक लंबे समय तक इस प्रथा का पालन कर चुके तो नारायण ने उनके लिए यह विधान किया कि वे अपने मृतक और अग्नि के सुपुर्द करें और तभी से वे उन्हें जलाते आ रहे हैं ताकि दाह-क्रिया से उनके शरीर को कुछ भी बचा न रहे और हर प्रकार की अपवित्रता , गंदगी और गंध तत्काल नष्ट हो जाए और उसके शरीर का लेशमात्र भी शेष न रहे .
