Reduced contact with the world's most modern, powerful, and advanced countries would likely cause Muslims to do even worse in those indexes and lapse deeper into a condition characterized by self-pity, jealousy, resentment, anger, and aggression. Especially when contrasted with Muslim successes in pre-modern times, these traumatic circumstances help explain the crisis in identity that often causes Muslims to seek solace in radical Islam. For everyone's sake, it is important that Muslims begin more successfully to negotiate their path to modernity, not to isolation. संपर्क समाप्त होने से मुस्लिम स्थिति और भी बदतर हो जाएगीविश्व के सबसे आधुनिक ,शक्तिशाली और विकसित देशों के साथ संपर्क कम होने से इन सूचकांकों में उनकी स्थिति बदतर ही होगी और उस स्थिति में पहुंच जायेंगे जहां आत्मदया ,ईर्ष्या, विरोध , क्रोध और आक्रामकता होगी.विशेष रुप से जब वे पूर्व आधुनिक युग से मुस्लिम सफलता की तुलना करते हैं तो प्राय: वर्तमान अवसादों की व्याख्या वे कट्टरपंथी इस्लाम के साथ अपनी पहचान में करते हैं. सबकी भलाई इसी में है कि मुसलमान आधुनिकता के रास्ते पर चलें न कि एकाकी रास्ते पर.

Every word of it was eagerly followed by the whole audience . अतः अपने इस कृत्य के लिए , जो कानून की नजरों में जानबूझकर किया गया अपराध है और जो मेरी नजरों में एक नागरिक का उच्चतम दायित्व है , मैं खुशी से कड़े से कड़े दंड को आमंत्रित करता हूं और उसके समक्ष पूर्ण आत्मउमर्पण करता हूं , और न्यायाधीश महोदय , आपके लिए एकमात्र रास्ता यही है कि या तो आप अपने पद से त्यागपत्र दे दें , स्वयं को दुष्टता से विलग कर लें , अगर आपको लगता है कि आपको जिस कानून को लागू करना है , वह दुष्ट है और असलियत में मैं निर्दोष हूं , या फिर अगर आप सोचते हैं कि यह व्यवस्था और यह कानून इस देश के लोगों की भलाई के लिए है और मेरे क्रियाकलाप जन-कल्याण में बाधक हैं तो मुझे कड़ी से कड़ी सजा दें . ”

Rather than smother the new Iraqi leadership, a better policy would be to make limited funds available to it, provide it with a benign military presence, and wish it well from afar. The government would be on its own to sink or swim in the historically violent and unforgiving arena of Iraqi politics once described by Elie Kedourie, himself of Iraqi origins, as having a record “full of bloodshed, treason and rapine.” If the government succeeds, it benefits from having done so on its own, not coddled by coalition troops. And if it fails, Iraqis themselves - political adults, not wards of the coalition - have the burden to decide their country's future course, with the foreign forces' role limited to making sure nothing goes catastrophically awry. नये ईराकी नेतृत्व के साथ बहुत गर्मजोशी दिखाने के बजाय यह नीति उचित होगी कि इसे सीमित आर्थिक सहायता उपलब्ध कराई जाये, थोड़ी सैन्य सहायता दी जाये और दूर से ही इसकी भलाई की कामना की जाये. जैसा कि ईराकी मूल के एली केदौरी के शब्दों में ईराक के खून खराबे, देशद्रोह और बदला लेने वाले ऐतिहासिक रूप से हिंसक और ईराकी राजनीति के अक्षम्य युग के साथ ईराकी सरकार को डूबने या तैर कर निकल आने की स्थिति में छोड़ देना चाहिये. यदि सरकार सफल होती है तो ऐसा गठबन्धन सेनाओं के सहयोग से न होकर स्वयं उनके द्वारा करने से लाभ होगा. और यदि असफल होती है तो राजनीतिक वयस्क ईराकियों पर अपने भविष्य को निर्धारित करने का भार होगा न कि गठबन्धन के पाल्यों पर. यह देखते हुये कि स्थिति हाथ से निकलने न पाये विदेशी सेनाओं की भूमिका सीमित होनी चाहिये.
