Subhas defended his amendment saying that the main resolution amounted to lowering of the flag of independence raised the previous year at the Madras Congress and that a declaration on full and complete independence was necessary to create a new mentality and new consciousness among the countrymen and particularly the new generation . अपने संशोधन के पक्ष में दलील देते हुए सुभाष ने कहा कि मुख़्य प्रस्ताव का तात्पर्य होता है गये साल , मद्रास कांग्रेस में लहराये गये आजादी के झंडे को झुका लेना ; और आगे कहा कि देशवासियों , विशेषतया नयी पीढ़ी में , नयी मानसिकता तथा नयी चेतना जगाने के लिए संपूर्ण स्वाधीनता की घोषणा बहुत जरूरी है .
