The SSB bursa is located deep to the deltoid muscle and the coracoacromial arch and extends laterally beyond the humeral attachment of the rotator cuff, anteriorly to overlie the intertubercular groove, medially to the acromioclavicular joint, and posteriorly over the rotator cuff.

Acromioclavicular joint dislocations are graded from I to VI . Grading is based upon the degree of separation of the acromion from the clavicle with weight applied to the arm . "'Grade I "'is slight displacement of the joint, and a badly stretched or partially torn AC ligament.

Each of its components has its own individual functions, it serves as a point of attachment for a variety of musculotendinous and ligamentous structures, it allows limited, but significant movement to occur through the coracoclavicular ligament and the acromioclavicular articulation, and it maintains a normal, stable relationship between the upper extremity and the axial skeleton.
