"Eurana " s name was later changed to "'SS " Alamar " "', and was used in World War II . At Murmansk, on 27 May 1942, " Alamar " was hit by several aerial bombs on her afterdeck and set afire after Stukas ( dive bombers ) attacked for one and a half hours.

" Ault " s 40 mm and 20 mm gunmounts were removed, and her 01 level afterdeck was converted to a helicopter flight deck to facilitate the use of drone antisubmarine helicopters ( DASH ), one of the Navy's newest weapon systems which enabled the destroyer to reach out farther in search of submarine targets.
