There are two altar tombs with alabaster effigies dating from the 14th century : the tombs are of a knight ( thought to be Henry of Berkhamsted, one of the Black Prince's lieutenants at the Battle of Crecy ) and his lady.

The proposal met with generous support, and a beautiful altar tomb with recumbent effigy in alabaster from the designs of F . A . Walters, F . S . A ., has now been erected on the Gospel side of the sanctuary.

Goodrich church contains the tomb of the Countess of Salisbury, ( an altar tomb on the left side of the altar, plain with no inscription or effigy ), who was charged by Henry Bolingbroke with bringing up his son, later to become King Henry V, after the death of Mary de Bohun his first wife.

In 1858, the stonework was restored and the church refitted with open benches, oak pulpit, etc ., at a cost of ?, 200, raised by subscription, Henry Back, J . H . Gurney and the rector were the largest contributors, the former also restoring the belfry, recasting one bell, and the latter, restoring the south porch and the two altar tombs.

Opposite, on the southern side, is an alabaster altar tomb by Maximilian Colt dedicated to Robert's fourth son and eventual heir, Sir Edward Carre, 1st Baronet ( d . 1618 ), which carries the effigies of Edward and one of his two wives, probably his second, Anne Dyer; according to Trollope, it was " said to have been mutilated during the Civil War ".

In the parish church for Althorp, St Mary the Virgin in Great Brington, Sir William bequeathed the church's east window of stained glass which depicted St . John the Baptist and the Spencer coat of arms, now in a south window of the chancel, in memory of his father and a plain altar tomb with an Elizabethan tablet commemorating his life and death and that of his lady Susan, the daughter of Sir Richard Knightley.
