The Gaddis and some labourer families follow the Batta-Satta system of marriage in which the bride 's brother has to marry the groom 's sister or vice versa . ग़द्दियों तथा कुछ श्रमिक वर्गों में ' बट्टा-सट्टा ' विवाह का भी रिवाज है.इसमें पिता अपने पुत्री को दूसरे के यहां बहु रूप में भेजता है और वहां से वर की बहन को बहू रूप में लाता है .

First comes the mother-in-law who presents the bride with jewellery and , sees her face , then the uncle 's wives , sister-in-law etc . , follow . सर्वप्रथम सास अपनी बहू को आभूषण भेंट कर मुंह देखती है.तत्पश्चात जेठानी , ननदें , चाचियां , ताइयां , बुआएं आदि सभी निकटस्थ Zसंबंधी मुंह देखती समय बहू के आभूषण अथवा रुपये भेंट करते है .

Customs like Samuhat , Shanti , Lagna , Vedika , Vida , Andaron -LRB- the entry of the bride into her new household -RRB- and Dwiraga-man , are followed in most areas here , with few local variations . इसमें बैदिक तथा लौकिक प्रथाओं को समानांतर महत्व दिया जाता है समूहत , शांति , लग़्न , बेदिका , विदा , अंदरोण ( बहू प्रवेश ) , द्विरागमन थोड़े-बहुत अंतर लेकर सर्वत्र समान है .

In Midhila arrangements were done for the Swayamvar (custom of choosing husband by bride herself) of Sita who is also known by another name as Janaki, where according to the vow of Janaka, Ram broke the Shiva bow and married Sita. मिथिला में राजा जनक की पुत्री सीता जिन्हें कि जानकी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है का स्वयंवर का भी आयोजन था जहाँ कि जनकप्रतिज्ञा के अनुसार शिवधनुष को तोड़ कर राम ने सीता से विवाह किया।

In accordance with the prevailing custom , the ladies of the family took upon themselves the responsibility of selecting a bride for the youngest son of the family . But they were not free to select whom they liked . प्रचलित रीर्तिरीवाजों के अनुरूप , परिवार की महिलाओं ने इस परिवार के सबसे छोर्टेबेटे के लिए बहू चुनने की ऋम्मेदारी अपने सिर माथे पर ले ली लेकिन वे इस मामले में इतनी स्वतंत्र नहीं थीं कि वे किसे चाहती हैं .
