Of the processes available for these conversions, the Claus process is by far the most well known for recovering elemental sulfur, whereas the conventional Contact process and the WSA ( Wet sulfuric acid process ) are the most used technologies for recovering sulfuric acid.

This included 68 individuals who ran away from contact and died in the forest, 131 individuals who died at reservation / mission settlements between 1971 and 1978, and 49 individuals that were kidnapped by Paraguayans during the contact process and never seen again ( Hill and Hurtado 1996 ).

These processes are of great industrial and environmental importance as they provide the bulk of sulfur used in industry ( Claus process and Contact process ), sulfur-free compounds that could otherwise not be used in a great number of catalytic processes, and also reduce the release of harmful sulfur compounds into the environment, particularly sulfur dioxide ( SO 2 ) which leads to acid rain.

In the production, I would like to add something more on the Showa Denko KK process which I think looks competitive with CATIVA, plus we need a little more on CATIVA . I accept PC's comment that we don't want simply to duplicate a full article on the Monsanto process or CATIVA . However I think the basic info should be there ( I faced this recently when I rewrote sulfuric acid where I wanted to summarise the Contact process ).
