According to the affidavit of a special agent for the Drug Enforcement Agency supporting a search warrant made public Wednesday, a secretary for Executive Systems Inc . in Birmingham, Ala . spilled coffee on a Federal Express envelope addressed to Hobson.

A call by the Globe Wednesday afteroon to Executive Systems was answered by a woman who, when asked about the spilled coffee and the events leading to Hobson's arrest, said, " Sir, I'll let you speak to my owner . . . one moment ."

The Federal Express envelope was sent to Hobson by a longtime friend and Bessemer High School teammate, Jerry Poe of Hueytown, Ala . Poe's address in the search warrant is the same as that of Executive Systems, Inc ., where, according to the affidavit, he requested a contract secretary to mail the envelope.
