The living room is a virtual shrine to Helen's kin, their land and a Texas that used to be, full of artifacts : Smokey's saddle; a lamp base made of a mule bit, horseshoe and brand from the ranch; a doily knitted with feed sack drawstrings; a child-size leather chair with lasso trim that belonged to the daughter Helen lost in 1960.
