After hearing about the end of Yadavasfrom Arjuna when he returned from Dwaraka, Yudhishtara was disappointed and he renounced the throne and after passing on the crown to Arjuna's grandson Parikshit, he left for the Himalayas with Draupadi and his brothers in what was to be their last journey. तदनन्तर द्वारका से लौटे हुए अर्जुन के मुख से यादवों के संहार का समाचार सुनकर युधिष्ठिर ने संसार की अनित्यता का विचार करके परीक्षित को राजासन पर बिठाया और द्रौपदी तथा भाइयों को साथ ले हिमालय की तरफ महाप्रस्थान के पथ पर अग्रसर हुए।

Thus Vedas are incomparable works of the ancient Vedic Tradition of recitation/memorizing system, which is passed on from generation to the next for last four to five thousand years. वेदों को श्रुति भी कहा जाता है क्योकि पहले मुद्रण की व्यवस्था न होने से इनको एक दुसरे से सुन- सुनकर याद रखा गया इसप्रकार वेद प्राचीन भारत के वैदिक काल की वाचिक/श्रुति = श्रवण परम्परा की अनुपम कृति है जो पीढी दर पीढी पिछले चार-पाँच हजार वर्षों से चली आ रही है ।
