Towards the end of the First Plan period , it was realised that the perspective of development needed a big push in the country 's steel programme and it was essential to act quickly if , even as the experience of a few years had taught , steel shortages were not to hold back a surging economy . प्रथम , योजना के अन्त में , यह अनुभव किया गया कि विकास की संभावनाओं के लिए आवश्यकता थी , देश के इस्पात कार्यक्रम को आगे बढ़ाने की और इसमें तेजी से काम करना और भी आवश्यक था और जैसा कि कुछ वर्षों के अनुभवों ने सिखाया था कि इस्पात का अभाव सुधरती अर्थव्यवस्था के लिए रोड़ा नहीं होना चाहिए .

The major projects approved during the Plan period were the giant Maharashtra Gas Cracker Complex -LRB- MGCC -RRB- , benzene recovery facilities at Cochin and expansion schemes of IPCL in the public sector and additional capacity for DMT/PTA , PSF , NFY , synthetic rubber and linear alkyl benzene -LRB- LAB -RRB- in the private sector . योजना अवधि में स्वीकृत बड़ी मुख़्य परियोजनाएं इस प्रकार थीं-विशाल महाराष्ट्र गैस क्रेकर कम्पलेक़्स ( एम . जी . सी . सी . ) , बेंजीन रहित कोचीन की सुविधाएं और सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र में आई.पी.सी.एल . की विस्तार योजनाएं तथा निजी क्षेत्र में डी . एम . टी . पी . ए . , पी . एस . एफ . , एन . एफ . वाई . , सिंथेटिक रबड़ तथा एल . ए . बी . ( लिनियर पर अल्काइल बेंजीन ) के लिए अतिरिक्त क्षमता .
