They endure the consequences of current tensions and conflicts in a particularly burdensome manner.” He went on to name Syria, Iraq, Egypt and “other parts of the Holy Land” as “sometimes dripping with blood.” He called for “respect for everyone's right to a dignified life and freedom to profess their own religion” and declared that “The Bishop of Rome will not rest as long as there are men and women of any religion with injured dignity, deprived of life's necessities, robbed of their futures, forced to the status of refugees and displaced persons.” इस सन्तुलित गम्भीर पहुँच से आपसी समझ विकसित करने में सहायता मिलेगी जिसके व्यापक परिणाम चर्च से बाहर भी होंगे. यह देखते हुये कि सामान्य नेता अन्तर्धार्मिक मसलों में कितना नेतृत्व करते हैं. पश्चिमी देशों को भी उपयुक्त प्रतिफल को बढ़ावा देना चाहिये निश्चय ही परिणाम अत्यन्त ही रोचक होगा.

The Rushdie crisis suddenly erupted when the ruler of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini, put a death edict on a novelist for having written a magical realist novel, The Satanic Verses , declaring that the book was “against Islam, the Prophet, and the Koran.” That incident was then followed by a long list of similar assaults - concerning a U.S. Supreme Court frieze in 1997, American evangelical leader Jerry Falwell in 2002, Newsweek in 2005, the Danish cartoons in 2006, Pope Benedict XVI also in 2006, Florida preacher Terry Jones in 2010, and U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan early in 2012. Vatican leaders tried to defuse the pope's quote, as well as his condemnation of jihad (holy war). None of the Ankara theologians ... will discuss whether the Koran was dictated word-for-word by the Archangel Gabriel to the Prophet Mohammed, or whether it is an historical document, collected and revised over time, like the Hebrew and Christian scriptures. To argue for a human element in the Koran threatens the foundations of Islam. Yet it is impossible to conduct serious exegesis without considering the possibility of later redaction or alteration, especially considering the frequent discrepancies, contradictions and occasional incoherence of the Koranic text. That was the reservation the pope reportedly raised at the Castel Gandolfo meeting, and the exercise in Ankara appears to validate his skepticism. That resistance took a new turn last week, with two dramatic events. First, on March 22, Pope Benedict XVI himself baptized, confirmed, and gave the Eucharist to Magdi Allam , 56, a prominent Egyptian-born Muslim long living in Italy, where he is a top editor at the Corriere della Sera newspaper and a well-known author. Allam took the middle name Cristiano.
