The Koran was the same text then as now. More broadly, over a period of 14 centuries, Muslims have been inspired by the Koran to act in ways aggressive and passive, pious and not, tolerant and not. Logic demands that one look elsewhere than an immutable text to account for such shifts. अपरिवर्तनीय - कोई भी अपरिवर्तनीय पवित्र ग्रंथ हर समय एक सा ही रहता है . यदि कुरान आतंकवाद का आदेश देता है तो 1960 के बारे में क्या कहा जाएगा जब उग्रवादी इस्लामी हिंसा का कोई वजूद नहीं था . उस समय भी तो कुरान की विषयवस्तु वही थी . व्यापक रुप में पिछली 14 शताब्दियों से मुसलमान अपने आक्रामक ,शांत, पवित्र ,अपवित्र ,सहिष्णु या असहिष्णु व्यवहार की प्रेरणा कुरान से ही लेता रहा है . फिर भी तर्क यह कहता है कि अपरिवर्तनीय पुस्तक के रहते हुए भी मुसलमानों के व्यवहार में आए परिवर्तनों की जड़ कहीं और भी देखी जानी चाहिए.
