The keen young service team struggled to cope with a crowd in the pretty garden, and of seven dishes we tried, only two were real winners : balsamic-glazed quail and Patrick Markby's fabulous summer pudding, a symphony of berries that could not have been better if Jane Grigson herself had made it.
