Manufacture throughout the war years included wings for De Havilland Tiger Moth and Airspeed Oxford trainers, wing flaps for Fairey Barracuda torpedo-bombers and Handley Page Halifax heavy bombers, fuselages for Shorts Stirling heavy bombers and Airspeed Horsa gliders, and tail planes for Bristol Beaufighter heavy fighter.

Investigations in 1936 following a series of fatal crashes resulted in late production aircraft being built with additional fin area in the shape of vertical " Zulu Shield " extensions to the tail planes to improve lateral stability-these aircraft were designated D . H . 86B.

The design that had developed during 1948 evolved further during 1949 . To achieve Mach 2 the wing sweep was increased to 60?with the ailerons moved to the wing tips and later ( after wind tunnel tests ) the height of the tail plane was lowered.

On September 2013 a new UAV named Yasir was delivered to Iran's Army ground force; according to Jane's Information Group, the Yasir UAV appears to share the ScanEagle's 1.37 m length and 3.11 m wingspan, although it does have a slightly different twin tail boom and inverted-V tail plane configuration.
