Consecutive and Concurrent Sentences When several punishments are imposed for several offences at one trial , the court may direct that the several punishments shall run concurrently , that is to say , the accused shall suffer imprisonment for the term of several punishments awarded ; in the absence of such direction , the several terms will run consecutively , which means that the accused will suffer imprisonment for the aggregate of the several terms , one sentence commencing on the expiry of the other . क्रमिक तथा समवर्ती दंड जहां एक ही विचारण में कई अपराधों के लिए कई दंड दिए जाते हैं वहां न्यायालय यह आदेश दे सकता है कि ये दंड साथ साथ चलेंगे अर्थात अभियुक्त को दिए विभिन्न दंडों की अवधि के लिए कारावास का दंड भोगना होगा ; इस प्रकार का आदेश न दिया जाए तो कारावास की अवधियां क्रमिक रूप से चलेंगी यानी अभियुक्त को सभी अवधियों के योग के बराबर कारावास भोगना होगा- एक दंड की अवधि समाप्त होने पर दूसरी दंड की अवधि प्रारंभ होगी .
