This doesn't mean that you " have " to verbalise out loud, but as several people posting above me have implied, holding the words in ( and re-processing them internally, rather than letting them go through the full feedback loop, out the mouth and back in through the ears ) might be a social nicety and an effort which makes life harder for the thinker .
