One died of complications from the ventilation; the other two recovered after the tubing was replaced with a phthalate-free material, ethylenevinyentilation, the very small number that this case involved and the thousands of infants that received artificial ventilation on a daily basis without evidence of health effects, that a causal relationship between DEHP exposure and effects in these infants could not be inferred from this study.
