Cu ( I )-only systems have also been found to promote coupling of alkynyl carboxylic acids with aryl halides ( see aryl alkynes below ), as well as decarboxylative dehydrogenative cross-coupling of amino acids with alkynes ( or similar nucleophiles ).

The following year a similar mechanism was proposed where oxidative addition of an aryl halide followed by migratory CO insertion and is followed by nucleophilic abstraction of the ?-acyl by MeOH . One of the advantages of this intermolecular nucleophilic abstraction is the production of linear acyl derivatives.

The reaction was named after Karl Wilhelm Rosenmund who together with his Ph . D . student Erich Struck discovered in 1914 that aryl halide reacts with alcohol water solution of potassium cyanide and catalytic amounts of cuprous cyanide at 200 C . The reaction yields the carboxylic acid, not the nitrile, but Rosenmund speculated that the intermediate should be the nitrile . and Julius von Braun for example the use of ionic liquids as solvent for the reaction.
