But since you have so many weeds, eliminate those first, then re-sod large, bare areas and / or plug smaller, bare areas with new St . Augustine . ( I know you don't want to start over, but if there is little remaining St . Augustine to jump-start, it might be easier to just re-sod the entire lawn with a disease-resistant variety .)
