Streptolysin S, the toxic virulence factor of " Streptococcus pyogenes ", is also a RiPP . Additionally, human thyroid hormone itself is a RiPP due to its biosynthetic origin as thyroglobulin.

Other proteins belonging to the pancreatic ribonuclease superfamily include : bovine seminal vesicle and brain ribonucleases; kidney non-secretory ribonucleases; liver-type ribonucleases; angiogenin, which induces vascularisation of normal and malignant tissues; eosinophil cationic protein, a cytotoxin and helminthotoxin with ribonuclease activity; and frog liver ribonuclease and frog sialic acid-binding lectin.

In 1981, the structure of one such toxin, okadaic acid, was determined after it was extracted from both the black sponge in Japan, " Halichondria okadai ", for which it was named, and a sponge in the Florida Keys, " Halichondria Melanodocia ".
