(2) Writing in the Jerusalem Post , Barbara Sofer suggests an excellent way to honor the memory of Angelo Frammartino, by having his family join in solidarity with another high-profile victim of Palestinian violence. Oct. 23, 2012 update : Ehud Eilam of Israel Defense magazine considers whether Hizballah and Hamas would “join Iran in a war against Israel” and is skeptical: There is a prevalent view that in the event of an Israeli strike on Iran, Tehran's proxies in Lebanon and Gaza - Hizballah and Hamas - would join in retaliation against Israel. A more likely scenario, however, is that those groups' participation will be limited at best. Hizballah must consider its crumbling support from the weakened Assad regime, as well as popular opposition within Lebanon to its role in military conflict with Israel. Hamas' recent feud with Iran over the group's lack of support for the Assad regime could render it reluctant to assist in the fight against Israel. लेखकों ने इजरायल के आक्रमण से उत्पन्न होने वाले तीन अन्य प्रभाव भी गिनाये हैं। यह बात सत्य है कि ईरान के लोग एक साथ अपनी सरकार के पीछे खडे होंगे परन्तु दीर्घगामी रूप में तेहरान की इस बात के लिये आलोचना होगी कि, “ उन्होंने परमाणु मामले को ठीक से नहीं हल किया जिसके चलते कि बात सैन्य टकराव तक आ गयी” । किसी भी बाह्य सैन्य आक्रमण पर अरब की सडकों पर लोगों के उतरने की भविष्यवाणी तो सदैव ही की जा सकती है लेकिन ऐसा कभी नहीं होता क्योंकि फारस की खाडी के शियाओं के मध्य उत्पन्न असन्तोष को संतुलित करने के लिये अनेक अरब देश इजरायल के पक्ष में प्रसन्न हो रहे होंगे। जहाँ तक परमाणु अप्रसार संधि को छोड कर प्रत्यक्ष रूप से परमाणु कार्यक्रम को चलाने की बात है तो जितना अधिक ईरान प्रतिक्रिया करेगा उतना ही अधिक उन्हें उस कार्यक्रम को चला पाने में कठिनाई होगी।

Rabbi Bloom told an Aguda audience that Jewish demographic trends imply that American Orthodox Jews can no longer, as in the past, bury themselves in their parochial interests and expect non-Orthodox Jewish institutions to shoulder the major burden of communal responsibilities. Rather, the Orthodox must now join in, or even take over from, their non-Orthodox coreligionists such tasks as fighting anti-Semitism, sending funds to Israel, and lobbying the American government. “The things we rely on secular Jews for,” he asked, “who's going to do that if the secular community whittles down? We have to broaden our agenda to include things that up until now we've relied upon secular Jews to do.” He exaggerates, in that some Orthodox Jews in America have been prominently involved in both national (think of Senator Joseph Lieberman, Democrat of Connecticut) and communal affairs (Morton Klein of the Zionist Organization of America comes to mind).
