There is a mixture of boulder clay and other glacial deposits in the eroded valleys, and raised beach and marine deposits elsewhere, especially to the south and west which result in a machair landscape in places, inland from the sandy bays, such as Stravanan.

The Clubs home ground is on Fivepenny Machair and boasts some of the best changing rooms and stands in the Western Isles as well as the Ness F . C . Social Club next to the pitch, a fantastic venue for fans, players and members of the community to relax in.

These birds are mountain specialists, although red-billed choughs also use coastal sea cliffs in Ireland, Great Britain, and Brittany, feeding on adjacent short grazed grassland or machair; the small population on La Palma, one of the Canary Islands, is also coastal . in North Africa and in the Himalayas.

The cliffs on the eastern side of this headland show the only preserved exposures of Moine metasediments west of the main outcrop of the Moine Thrust in Scotland ( as a result of thrusting and later normal-faulting ) and excellent machair examples have developed between the cliff top and the dunes, partly due to the high sea-shell content of the sands in the Durness area.
